This month (November) I will be participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). It’s more than just some dumb month long observance though- it’s a project/challange to write a 175 page (50,000 word) novel by midnight November 30th. No time for editing, rewrites, or careful consideration…just a frantic “seat of your pants” bang-it-out novel in just 30 days. Thousands of people across the country (and maybe a few others around the world) will be writing novels for the next 30 days. A group in my ‘hood (Inwood) will be meeting up for write-ins at Indian Road Cafe every Saturday in November 3:30-5:30 pm. Learn more about NaNoWriMo at nanowrimo.org
I’ve never written a novel before-and I don’t imagine the one I write this month will be very good (I’m hoping for mediocre- but expecting a pile of poorly worded drivel). I’m excited, a little scared, and actually really curious about what I can crank out in 30 days. My mind is racing with ideas, plot lines, characters, and dialogues. All I have worked out is that it’s going to be a story loosely based on ‘characters’ from my childhood, and will involve amulets, magic, a zombie, an evil mother in law, and revenge…and maybe a moral….who knows.
Apologies in advance for the pile of crap I’ll make all of you read in 30 days time :-)
